CHRIS HORN | Juniors Report 2021/22 Season

Season 2021/22 was another positive season for our juniors at Brothers CC. Disappointingly, we fell just short of being able to field a Cup (U17) team but fielded two teams in Bowl (U11), one team in Plate Blue (U13), two teams in Plate Gold (U13) and one team in Trophy (U15) for One Day Competitions.

The team performance highlights from the season were second place for our Plate Gold (U13) White team in their One Day Competition and T20 Competition wins for our trophy (U15) team and the one Plate Gold (U13) Team what we nominated.  Our Junior Blasters and Master Blasters programs were extremely successful with 30 Junior Blasters and 29 Master Blasters enjoying the programs this season.

Our Perpetual Trophy winners for juniors for 2021/22 were:

  • Team of the Season | Plate (U13) Gold White - Brett Wheeler & Adam Hayes
  • St John Fisher's Shield for Best & Fairest of Primary School Age | Riley Fryer
  • Most Promising Junior Cricketer | Xavier Leonard

A strong number of our junior players also achieved selection in representative teams this season which was great to see.  It was great to have Life Member David Todd run some pre-season Sunday morning sessions with our representative juniors.

Congratulations to the following players on their selections:

  • Northern 12 years School Boys | Eli Groves & Zachery Hayes
  • North Queensland U12A | Elliott Brown, Andrew Eaton, Riley Fryer, Eli Groves & Callum Lindeberg
  • North Queensland U12B | Zak Bagley, Vasefenua Roberts & Zayd Smith
  • North Queensland U13 Girls | Bella Murphy
  • North Queensland U13 | Zachery Hayes
  • North Queensland U14 | Jaydin Fryer & Jack Purdy
  • Northern U15 Schoolboys | Xavier Leonard
  • North Queensland U15 | Xavier Leonard
  • Northern Open Schoolboys | Tyler Fryer
  • North Queensland U18 | Tyler Fryer

I would like to thank our committee members for their excellent support of our juniors in the lead up to and throughout the season.  In particular, our President, Kevin Buchanan, Secretary Leigh Fryer and Junior Registrar, Nathan Watkins who were of significant assistance to juniors directly and particularly with the tasks of sign on, fee collection, uniforms, equipment and presentations.  Their assistance was invaluable.

I would like to recognise all of our junior coaches and their assistants for their dedicated volunteer work investing in our junior players throughout the season that has set our club up very well for a bright future.  No person was left by themselves to run a team or program which proved to make for an enjoyable season for all involved.

  • Junior Blasters | Chris Horn, Tristan Richards, Adam Horn, Logyn-John Webster & Max Quinn
  • Master Blasters | Chris Quin, Ally Quin, Grace Quin, Michael Blucher, Tate Liston, Peter McManus & Jeremy Morgan
  • Bowl (U11) Blue | Scott Hunter, Nathan Brown, Adam Leonardi
  • Bowl (U11) White | Matt Groves, Ryan Christofferson
  • Plate (U13) Blue | Zeb Kyle, Greg Cameron, Grant Skuse
  • Plate Gold (U13) Blue | Tim Lindeberg, Rebecca Brown, Steve Lansley, Terry Eaton
  • Plate Gold (U13) White | Brett Wheeler, Adam Hayes
  • Trophy (U15) | Chris Horn, Ashley Crocker, Nathan Watkins

It was fantastic that once again we had many people willing to chip in and help with the running of our juniors, from sign on day right through to presentations and everything in between including training sessions, matches, club fundraising events such as the NQ Elite Rodeo Bar and Bunnings sausage sizzle.  Parents, grandparents and other family members and friends of our junior players were fantastic support to players, coaches and their assistants throughtout the season.

Season 2022/23 promises to be another enjoyable season of growth for our juniors.  We are in good shape to once again nominate a Cup (U17) team that will also help with the feeding through of players to our senior teams. Bowl (U11), Plate (U13) and Trophy (U15) divisions and our Junior Blasters and Master Blasters programs should also see continued strong numbers in our club off the back of a positive 2021/22 season.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as Vice President - Juniors for our club and look forward to a successful 2022/23 season.
